CASBS – Colorblind Seminar

Dear CASBS Seminar Participants:
We are delighted that you will be joining us for our seminar on “Colorblind Disciplining of Race-Conscious Work: Critical Interventions Across the Academy.” We are looking forward to having a productive and engaging seminar.
In this CASBS section, you will be able access most of your materials for the week. You will find your participant bios, view and download the Agenda for the seminar, as well as, the companion reading materials. For your convenience, you will find that within the Agenda we have hyperlinked the appropriate materials for each workshop.
As we indicated in our letter of invitation, our overall goal is to consider how the disciplines both enable and inhibit knowledge about race. We take as a point of departure the increasing resonance of colorblind and post-racialist assertions that ongoing efforts to name and interrupt patterns of racial power are no longer warranted.
Building on the presumption that such closure on race would be premature, we seek to facilitate means by which the existing knowledge on race can be more readily integrated and mobilized to sustain race conscious research and interventions. To facilitate this gathering, we want to stage creative conversations across disciplines to help us better articulate how race operates within and beneath a colorblind sensibility.
We look forward to a productive seminar!
