Overview:  The Global Affirmative Action Praxis Project (“Praxis Project” or “GAAPP”) is an initiative of the African American Policy Forum (“AAPF”) which connects students interested in international human rights with activists and other policymakers promoting race and caste conscious social inclusion policies in the U.S., Brazil and India.  The Praxis Project is informed by the increasing importance of transnational conversation and collaboration regarding racial and caste inequality and the power that comparative analysis can have on our ability to imagine both the possibilities and limitations of anti-discrimination remedies in Brazil, India and the United States.

Over the past two years, students from the U.S. have traveled to Brazil and India to explore linkages among anti-subordination efforts in all three countries.  During each of these trips, students connected scholarly and advocacy agendas aimed at broadening such international anti-subordination discourses, with a particular emphasis on creating a more robust anti-discrimination framework in the three countries and applying the lessons learned to the U.S. context.

Each student and project coordinator chronicled their experiences in India and Brazil through blogs posted daily. To see their insightful perspectives, please visit: Indian Praxis Project and the Brazilian Praxis Project.
