What Is The #NewERA
...women from all walks of life banded together to propose the Equal Rights Amendment, a proposed amendment to the Constitution designed to enshrine and institutionalize equal rights for all women in the United States of America. Though the measure has been introduced countless times, it has never been passed in Congress.
In an attempt to resurrect the campaign behind the Equal Rights Amendment, the African American Policy Forum, the Center for Intersectionality and Social Policy Studies at Columbia Law School, The ERA Coalition and dozens of thought leaders and feminist titans came together in fall 2016 to troubleshoot how to once again gain momentum, this time, against the backdrop of an impending Trump Presidency.
The #NewERA aims to be bigger, bolder and more inclusive than prior drafts of the Amendment have been. It has an intersectional analysis of legal frameworks and societal structures at its center, and it is committed to uplifting a vision of equality that leaves no person behind.
