AAPF is enthusiastically seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Social Media Director to join our team! This position is a full-time role located in New York.

Founded in 1996, The African American Policy Forum (AAPF) is an innovative think tank that connects academics, activists, and policy-makers to promote efforts to dismantle structural inequality. We utilize new ideas and innovative perspectives to transform public discourse and policy. We promote frameworks and strategies that address a vision of racial justice that embraces the intersections of race, gender, class, and the array of barriers that disempower those who are marginalized in society. AAPF is dedicated to advancing and expanding racial justice, gender equality, and the indivisibility of all human rights, both in the U.S. and internationally.
Senior Manager of Social Media
Reporting to the Arts and Media Director, the Senior Manager of Social Media will serve as the lead for the newly created social meeting team — developing and executing AAPF social media content and elevating AAPF’s brand presence across various platforms and verticals. The Senior Manager of Social Media is responsible for proactively shaping the public’s understanding of AAPF, racial and gender justice, critical race theory, intersectionality, and other core concepts on our social media platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Social Media Content Development (50%)

Develop short and long-term social media content for AAPF programmatic initiatives, events, and speaking engagements for the Executive Director;

Work alongside the arts & media director to support the production and design of social content including videos and graphics;

Create a social media calendar that is in alignment with the editorial calendar;

Develop a process for drafting, editing and sharing social media posts (internally and externally);
-
Balance promoting programmatic events and creating “movement moments” across social media platforms;

Work alongside the VP of Communications to ensure messaging is aligned in press and on social media to create a cohesive narrative;

Collaborate with other team members to highlight key programs, events and content across all AAPF social media platforms;
-
Regularly stay abreast of changes in the social media ecosystem and offer new ideas for how we can leverage social media better to achieve the organization’s mission; and
-
Shape the evolving vision to highlight who AAPF is and what the organization does across all of AAPF’s social media platforms.
Audience Engagement & Analytics (30%)

Utilize a creative approach to develop strategy and tactics that increase audience engagement, build the AAPF brand, and drive followers to take action;

Establish KPI’s and utilize analytics to drive a social media strategy that translates AAPF’s campaign work to targeted audiences online;

Create monthly social media reports for metrics across all AAPF social media platforms; and
-
Establish analytics for audience demographics and develop social media tactics to consistently engage with audiences across all AAPF social media platforms.
Brand Strategy (20%)

Collaborate closely with the Arts and Media Director to ensure brand consistency between content shared across all AAPF social media platforms;

Create a social media policy to ensure best practices and brand consistency online; and
-
Support development of content to support and amplify the Executive Director’s thought leadership work.
Qualifications:

Knowledge and interest in advocacy for racial & gender justice;

3-5 years working in a non-profit, public relations, or similar setting;

Familiarity with writing social media copy, compiling analytics and monitoring social media trends as it relates to relevant news;

Experience collaborating with a team and managing contractors with an emphasis on professional development;
-
Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills;
-
The ability to translate talking points into social media copy that is creative, concise and consistent across all platforms;

Experience implementing social media strategies and a knowledge of the social media landscape;
-
Proficiency in Google Suite, Monday.com, Hootsuite, and Canva and related tools;
-
Strong organizational skills, and the ability to efficiently prioritize work and timelines for multiple projects;

Thrives in an environment that is collaborative and fast-paced; and
-
Able to be flexible in order to navigate evolving landscape.
